“It’s only when you grow up and step back from him–or leave him for your own home–it’s only then that you can measure his greatness and fully appreciate it.” – Margaret Truman
Father’s Day is an annual celebration to honor the fathers, celebrate fatherhood and paternal bonds. It’s celebrated on the third Sunday of June to honor not only dads, grandfathers, and step-dads but all the men who act as a father figure.
For me it is also a day of reflection on what fatherhood really means. I contemplate a quote from Anne Geddes …
“Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a dad.”
That someone special for me was my father, Manuel Najera. My dad was not a “Father Knows Best” type and believe me, I was no Wally or Beaver type either! My Dad didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.
Thanks Dad for letting me watch some amazing things! I miss you!
On behalf of the Najera Consulting team I would like to wish all dads a Happy Fathers Day!
Father’s day hasn’t actually had a huge impact on my life. Whenever it rolls around, it’s not something I partake in. Mind you, the step father I had, we never had a good relationship for various reasons. Now that I am older I know the correct step would be to reach out and repair it, but I’ve done this so many times that it feels pointless. I am glad though that there are those out there that get to enjoy father’s day and remember them (or reach out to them) in a positive way.
